The Drunken Monkey Coffee Bar, which looks it might have been a tiki bar in a previous lifetime, is decked out in yellow walls and a burgundy stamped tin ceiling. There’s a palm tree mural out front with a monkey’s face to greet you. You’ll find low prices, a vegan-friendly menu and relaxed bohemian vibe, giving this place a college town coffee house feel, even though the closest university is miles away.
Elegant touches, like circular wood-framed windows and a trio of white lanterns hanging from the ceiling, give Haan a sophisticated Asian vibe. This relaxing Korean-inspired coffee house is a tranquil oasis from the busy thoroughfare of Colonial Drive that runs in front of the store. It’s a calming, grown up space, with just about every blond wood table being occupied by a coffee-drinking laptop user.
The focus is on the coffee in this no-frills, industrial space. The espresso bar takes center stage as you walk in the front door, with a sofa and a few long tables on the right for gathering or collaborating. On my visit, a handful of customers gathered around the bar, chatting with the barista, adding a friendly community vibe to the place. If you want to take advantage of the Florida sunshine, there are a dozen or so tables on the outside patio which is shared with Lazy Moon Pizza.
Qreate Coffee + Studio is a combination coffee bar and professional photography studio. It greets you like any good java house, with a long espresso bar and pastry case near the front. Just inside to the right, there’s a cute nook with a couple of cozy chairs surrounded by plants. Farther into the shop, a half dozen wood tables with black metal chairs flank the wall. But you don’t have to be a shutterbug to enjoy Qreate; most people just come for the coffee.
