Reviewing Antonio’s: Pizza and Pasta in Houston.
Antonio’s Flying Pizza is a well-established and family-owned restaurant in Houston. They are open Tuesday through Saturday. This place has very loyal customers that have been going here since they first opened in 1971. Antonio’s specializes in authentic Italian cuisine and prepares all their food in-house from scratch. They serve the finest Italian dishes, such as cannelloni, lasagna, and excellent spaghetti dishes. Customers have a variety of pizza specialties to choose from. All pizzas are carefully prepared with a thin and chewy crust, minimal sauce, and an ample supply of cheese without being too greasy. Their popular Italian desserts include cannoli, spumoni, and tiramisu, which are truly satisfying after a hot meal. The prices and portions are reasonable and the food tastes extra
fresh and aromatic. Their style of cooking could be described as gourmet, but not fancy.
Antonio’s modest exterior welcomes you into its friendly atmosphere and rich tradition of serving homemade Italian food. Customers sense a warm and cozy feeling of acceptance. It is great for individuals and parties of two as well as for small business meetings and birthday parties. Upon entering, one sees employees flipping pizzas. Servers are constantly rotating around tables attending to their guests. The owners are also actively involved, checking orders, answering questions, making pizzas, and monitoring the food quality. It is common to see large families at Antonio’s enjoying their meals and complimenting the owner on his restaurant.
I ordered lasagna on my last visit. It is my favorite dish because it is unbelievably delicious, extraordinarily rich, generously proportioned, and tastes fresh. This lasagna has a variety of savory flavors with the sauce being both a little sweet and tart. The pasta layers are doughy, yet delicate. The red sauce is mostly mild, but still fragrant and very tasty. Antonio’s lasagna uses several kinds of cheese with multiple flavors that blend nicely with the well-seasoned ground meat. The lasagna has that overall taste of an Italian grandmother’s well-prepared casserole. Every juicy bite was superb and consistent. Equally as tasty as the lasagna are the cannelloni and the spaghetti and meatballs.
The food and service at Antonio’s are both top-notch. The servers are very hospitable and knowledgeable, while the food is always prepared perfectly. The owners are heavily involved in their business by being attentive and greeting customers with appreciation. The genuine care of the entire staff towards patrons is classy without being too formal. Each guest can really feel the individual attention given to their order.
