Reviewing Bravo Toast: Elevated breakfast and lunch toast in West Hollywood.
After seeing Bravo Toast all over my Tik Tok’s “For You” page, on various Los Angeles-based food accounts on Instagram, and through posts from several influencers, I knew I had to see what the hype was about. I gathered a group of friends and we decided to try it out. I mean, who doesn’t love avocado toast and matcha lattes? I know I sure do, so I thought this would be my new go-to favorite, but I was wrong.
Upon pulling up to Bravo Toast, I was shocked by how much smaller it was in person than it is in pictures online. I was also surprised by the overall setup; I guess pictures really are highlight reels. Anyways, we walked in, observed the items in the fridge, and examined the posted menu. The green aesthetic is definitely on point from the decor outside (benches, cart, and signs) to the vases and bottles inside. We ordered, then waited about five minutes for our drinks at the counter and found a table outside to wait for our toasts.
I ordered a classic matcha latte with vanilla flavoring. Unfortunately, I was not wowed by it at all. It was honestly quite bland and did not impress my matcha-addict tastebuds. My friend got the shaken matcha, which is an iced matcha latte with oat milk and cinnamon. I probably should have ordered this one because she really enjoyed it.
Our group ordered two green goddess toasts, which are classic avocado toasts with vegan pesto, burrata, and chili flakes. This dish was far too pesto-heavy for my liking, but the other ingredients were proportioned nicely on the toast and had tasty flavoring. We also tried the ricotta toast with local honey, sea salt, and Meyer lemon. It was extremely unique tasting and had more lemon flavor than I expected. This dish was also relatively heavy due to its richness and distinct flavor, so I could not finish it. Lastly, we got the berries and cream, which were just fresh berries with coconut whipped cream. My friend said the berries were a little mushy and did not seem fresh. All in all, the matcha latte I had was average, my friend’s latte was yummy, both toasts were good but not great, and the berries and cream were not impressive.
It was not until a group after us received their order that we realized something was off. Our toasts did not come in the specially branded boxes we had seen all over Instagram and TikTok. We were served in traditional to-go boxes. Ultimately, we ended up asking for the boxes and got them. I am not sure if the boxes are only given upon request or why we did not initially receive them, but it was a big damper on our experience. The service was slow considering we only ordered toasts and berries. The overall ambiance is aesthetically pleasing, photogenic, and Instagram-worthy; however, I would not go back for the food and drinks alone. I was truly disappointed by the spot not living up to the hype it has gained on social media, but this is a prime example of not always believing what you see on the internet because you never know until you try it out and see for yourself.
