Reviewing Carrabba’s: Homemade Italian food in Houston, Texas.
Carrabba’s is an extremely popular Italian restaurant with two locations in Houston. It claims to be Houston’s true neighborhood restaurant, and after frequenting its establishment on more than one occasion, I can attest that this is accurate.
It should not be confused with the separate franchise chain Carrabba’s Grill, which Outback owns.
Johnny Carrabba and his family opened the doors of the original location in 1986 and the second in 1988. They easily set themselves apart with an expansive and varied menu that emphasizes fresh local ingredients made in-house.
Valet parking offered at
There is a valet section in their parking lot that tends to get busy. The restaurant is in the city’s center, adjacent to a busy street with multiple restaurants and stores nearby. The interior is best suited for families. Though it is a nice-looking restaurant with a clean appearance and bar, it is not stuffy. It has a welcoming vibe to it, with an atmosphere that can vary depending on the time of day or night. There is a bar area as well as a main dining room that receives the most attention. The servers are professional and considerate to their guests.
Expansive Italian menu
Menu items include numerous pasta dishes, pizzas, seafood, steaks, chicken, and desserts. Like the rest of their menu, their wine and cocktails are abundant and creative.
Try the Cappelletti or the lasagna
I ordered one of my favorite dishes, Cappelletti. It was absolutely delicious, including round tortellini-like pasta stuffed with ground chicken, ricotta cheese, and spinach. The pasta is topped with a tomato cream sauce, which adds amazing flavor. It was a very aromatic meal. The dish was moist but not greasy, and every bite was consistent without lacking flavors.
Another dish I like here is the lasagna bolognese, which is delectable. The fresh pasta is layered between bolognese sauce, ricotta, and mozzarella. It is authentic, delicious, and a must-try.
Sogno de Choloate does not disappoint
If I have room, I enjoy their sogno de chocolate dessert. This fudgy brownie comes with a chocolate mousse, whipped cream, and hot fudge atop. This dessert also contains Kahlua, which is certainly noticeable and pairs well with the chocolate. It is decadent and rich but a mouth-watering delight.
Carrabba’s Final Review
The service on my last visit was superb and hospitable. The waitstaff and management were highly organized. Like the excellent service of my previous visits, the food was very fresh, tasty, and brought to my table in a timely manner. While a bit more expensive than other local Italian places, the portions compensate for the increased costs. I am excited to dine here again for an authentic and delicious Italian meal.
