Reviewing Chitchat Coffee and Matcha: Breakfast burritos and organic lattes in Los Angeles.
One of my go-to’s in L.A. is Chitchat Coffee and Matcha. Not only do I rely on them for my morning matcha fix, but I do a lot of meetings there for work or to meet up with friends because I know the parking is reliable, the coffee and matcha options are delicious, and the vibes are immaculate. Upon walking up to the spot, the pink chairs, as well as the black and white patterned wall, are appealing. The first thing that comes to mind is “I can’t wait to take photos!” It is always busy, no matter the hour of the day, which is assurance that my positive feelings for this spot are accurate. When walking in, the left wall has a cold case for juices, bottled coffee and matcha drinks, overnight oats, and other snacks. There is also a shelf with Chitchat branded items such as a home-making matcha set, mugs, hats, and more. The back wall has their branded merch including crewnecks, sweatpants, and T-shirts. A crewneck is undoubtedly my next investment! This visit in was solely to try the specialty drink for the month of March. It was a St Patrick’s Day-themed drink that was extended to be sold all of March because of the high demand. Thankfully, I was able to try it.
I ordered the Lucky Charms Cereal Milk Matcha Latte, which has oat milk and the highest quality first-flush ceremonial grade matcha. While the price of the latte is a tad high at $7.50, it was totally worth it. You would not think simply adding Lucky Charms would change the latte that much, but it made it a little bit sweeter and added some texture while drinking. I typically just get an iced matcha latte with vanilla syrup, so trying this specialty drink was a nice treat.
My friend got the Banana Bread Latte, which is one of their espresso signatures. It contains espresso, banana bread syrup, cinnamon, and 2% milk. It was delicious too! Despite me thinking this latte would be overly sweet, I stood corrected when I tried it and discovered there is a perfect balance of espresso and banana bread flavoring.
We ordered the Vegetarian Rico Suave burrito to share. They get their burritos from The Rooster, which Alfreds also does. This burrito is known as “L.A.’s best breakfast burrito, and the dopest of all.” The vegetarian one is filled with tater tots, eggs, cheddar and cotija cheese,
and avocado. It is served with a side of cilantro crema, house-made molcajete style salsa, and Zab’s St. August hot sauce. The flour tortilla on the burrito is perfectly crispy while remaining soft enough to hold all of the ingredients in place. The contrast between the crispy tater tots and the mushy avocado and soft egg makes each bite ideal. Our personal favorite sauce pair was the cilantro crema. All the sauces are yummy though!
It is normally the same three workers whenever I come in, but this time they had some new faces. The staff is always super friendly, and they are quick to make the drinks. As I mentioned, the ambiance of this spot is cutesy, extremely photogenic, Instagram-worthy, and a pleasant crowd is always there. I think it is a given considering it is one of my go-to spots and I am a regular here, but I will definitely be going back. I think I am going to make it my goal to try all the specialty drinks on their menu because I have not been disappointed by any so far. Chitchat Coffee and Matcha is a must-try in West L.A.!
