Reviewing Green New American Vegetarian: Vegan comfort foods in Downtown Phoenix.
When I arrived at Green New American Vegetarian, I was excited to learn I could indulge in vegan comfort foods similar to my meat-based favorites. The lively and smiling waitstaff in the kitchen and at the counter made my visit fun.
Located near the Arts District in Downtown Phoenix, Green New American Vegetarian features customers’ favorite foods made with 100% plant-based ingredients, mock meats, vegan cheeses, and organic when possible.
New American Vegetarian at Green
In addition to celebrating vegetables, the menu at Green is New American Vegetarian, a fusion cuisine offering a culinary style that draws inspiration from various cultures and cooking techniques. It’s not just for vegans. They aim to please your palate whether you are a carnivore, vegetarian, omnivore, or vegan. So that you know, Green New American Vegetarian is 100% vegan-vegetarian that masters all favorite comfort foods.
Bright Décor Inside and Outside
When I first walked into Green New American Vegetarian, I didn’t notice the décor because I was busy deciding what to order and reading the signs. Upon further observation, I realized the building was originally a garage with roll-up doors at the front.
The bright blue chairs at the outside and indoor dining tables matched the mural painted outside the building. The tables have long green leaves and silhouettes of leaves under epoxy that support the Green New American Vegetarian plant-based theme.
Celebrating the Big Wac
The day I ate at Green New American Vegetarian, they had just wrapped up the 10th anniversary of their Big Wac. Based on the famous “two all-beef patties and special sauce on a sesame seed bun,” the Big Wac is two hand-packed veggie patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun. This giant burger, their signature dish, delivers juicy, run-down-your-arms goodness. The bun was toasted and crisped, and it took two hands to eat. It was hard to believe it wasn’t a beef burger.
The Green Menu
The appetizer menu, called Bites, is designed for the diner to “add stuff.” Green New American Vegetarian offers Noodle Bowls, some with a spicy kick. You can make a Garden Burrito from a bowl of greens by adding a flour tortilla for $1. The Sides include soy-free fries, fried Brussels, and fresh fruit, with other plays on classic dishes.
Every Day is Funday
Exciting drink names like Siren’s Garden, When Doves Cry, Cultured Marg, Gemini Bloom, and Kentucky Sunshine combine interesting ingredients. Gin, tequila, vodka, and whiskey are the primary players in these reasonably priced adult beverages. For example, Siren’s Garden is made with Peaflower Gin, blue curacao, OJ, lemon syrup, and apricot marmalade topped with an orchid. The When Doves Cry cocktail is tequila, grapefruit juice, lime syrup, prebiotic grapefruit soda, with a salt rim and lime twist. This one MUST be good for your digestion!
Craft beer, cocktails, and crisp hard ciders are offered, creating a fun atmosphere and party time.
When I saw the “Craft Beer and Cider” sign, I studied it closer. The Supersonic Limeade sounded delicious. The drink is made with vodka, lime juice, and cherry syrup, shaken and topped with lime Jarritos (a fruit-flavored soda). This modestly priced drink is garnished with a lime and a cherry. The house wines on tap by the glass or carafe are affordably priced, too.
What You Need to Know About tSoynamis
Do you want superpowers? At Nami, a partner to Green and next-door neighbor, tSoynami is a 100% vegan plant-based ice cream. While I enjoyed a tSoynami at the Nami store immediately following my Big Wac, I didn’t leave with superpowers–those were not guaranteed. However, I did enjoy the delicious treat.
Green New American Final Review
You CAN have it your way at Green New American Vegetarian. I intend to visit again, try their adult beverages, and add “stuff” to the Bites.
