Reviewing Korner 67: Tapas style global cuisine in Miami Lakes.
If you do not frequent the Miami Lakes area, you will want to take a little trip now that Korner 67 has made ground on Main Street. If you are from the Miami Lakes area and have never heard of or tried it, what are you waiting for?
I was drawn to Korner 67 at the first glance of the warm twinkly lights strung along the outdoor patio area. As we made our way to the front doors, we caught a peak of the swanky setup going on indoors and faced the first of many difficult decisions when we were asked if we would like indoor or outdoor seating. What do we do: enjoy the cool vibes of the indoor area or dine under the glimmering lights while enjoying some fresh air and some beats? Outdoors it was!
Seated by a very friendly and inviting waitress, we were welcomed and given a thorough introduction to the new spot and intriguing menu. Equally impressive was Korner 67’s cocktail menu, which listed various unique recipes. We were especially drawn to their Culinary Cocktails section, which you can tell contained original cocktails crafted by a talented mixologist.
The Truffle Old Fashioned and Guava Lady caught our eyes, and boy, are we glad we chose them. The old-fashioned contained just the right amount of truffle to give you a nice whiff as you sipped but not overpower this elevated, classic concoction. It was so unique and has become my favorite drink, hands down. The Guava Lady was a close runner-up and is the perfect drink for those wanting something refreshing yet packed with flavor. It also helps that the drink is downright adorable!
As we sipped our cocktails, we perused Korner 67’s menu, salivating as we went item by item. There are options for everyone, whether you are in the mood for meat, fish, pasta, or something light. We had a vegetarian in our group and were pleased to have a much larger variety of meatless options than most restaurants offer; options that the whole table could agree on, at that! The menu was crafted for sharing. Each item has either an “S,” “M,” or “L” printed beside it, delineating the size of the plate, a practice I feel so many other restaurants should adopt. This made it easier for us to decide which plates we would get for the table and which we would choose for our own enjoyment. Trust me; there are some items you won’t want to share!
We started things off right with the duck prosciutto croquettes, an elevated version of a Miamian’s favorite small bite. These were adorned with a pungent fig jam and were a table favorite. I will go as far as to say that the fig jam, although delectable, was not necessary as the croquettes by themselves were exquisite. Continuing to please my truffle-loving palate, we moved on to the shitake truffle oil quesadilla. This was another 10 out of 10 dish that was large enough to split among a group of four or five people.
After ordering these items, we could not hold back. We had to try it all. Making it to the list of items we ordered was the roasted cauliflower, zucchini carpaccio, wagyu sliders, Asian short rib noodles, and filet mignon stroganoff, to name a few. I cannot even begin to describe the explosion of flavors we experienced. To put it simply, everything was just “Wow!” The cauliflower was topped with a fire corn salsa which was fantastic, and the zucchini dish downright impressed us. These two vegetarian dishes were simple, but each had components that added a little zing that took the dish to a new level.
The sliders and short rib noodles were great comfort food options. And last but not least, the stroganoff dish was the star of the show! I must confess, I had no idea what this dish would look like when I ordered it. What I did not expect was the flavorful masterpiece that arrived. On the plate was a bread bowl holding a creamy, soup-like center that oozed over the edge onto a bed of arugula. You could see the chunks of filet poking out. The filet was tender and almost melted in your mouth. The cream perfectly drenched the bread bowl for that ideal bite of homey deliciousness. It was like nothing I had ever tasted.
To finish off a superb meal at Korner 67, we ordered the Almond Delirious dessert. It was not too big, but it was not too small either as it was packed with wonderful flavors and textures: creamy, crunchy, and smooth. It was a perfect way to end a perfect meal. Upon finishing, we were greeted by the owners’ parents, who went around to every table to make sure everyone had an enjoyable experience. Since my first visit to Korner 67, I have returned three times. It is my go-to date night spot and a must-visit for any and all foodies!
