Reviewing Mescalito Coffee: Specialty coffee, baked goods, and more in Brenham, TX.
On a stop in town on my way back into Houston, I decided I needed a quick coffee fix. When I pulled onto the main street, I spotted a tiny cafe that I had not noticed before. Tucked away and almost hidden by an awning and scaffolding is Mescalito Coffee.
When I walked in, I noticed the vibe was completely different from the rest of the downtown area, yet blended in well. Brenham seems to be adding more and more modern additions to its downtown. However, even the newest shops still focus on small-town charm and shine a spotlight on local artists, products, and other vendors.
Mescalito Coffee blends this with delicious coffee and treats, as well as a cafe with an industrial, minimalist feel with a few people hanging out and doing work. Beyond those few people working and chatting is a selection of shops with an assortment of goods, from clothing, accessories to home goods. This back section is exceptionally trendy and inviting, with plants and nice lighting. However, the cafe section is so large that the back area is a bit hard to find if you don’t keep walking. I do love that they’ve meshed a few small businesses together to create a one-stop shop for those who want to support local vendors.
The entire shop is swathed in golden, bright light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The menu didn’t list any iced drinks, so I asked the barista behind the counter if they had iced coffee. Although they didn’t have iced coffee in particular, they did have iced cold brew.
I would have tried some of their pastries and other offerings, but because I was in a rush, I just decided to grab a small cold brew. Although I was tempted to add cream, I figured I would just try their black coffee since it was my first time at the cafe. As a former barista myself, I love to try different cafe’s coffee in search of that perfect brew.
I fully enjoyed every sip of this coffee. It was bold, dark, and smooth with notes of nuts and chocolate. It was ice cold with the perfect amount of ice, though I am sure if you wanted more or less, they could accommodate that easily.
This cold brew is perfect for any coffee lover and would be a great addition to any stroll along the main street shops. Take it or any of their other drinks with you for a day in the sun, a car ride in the country, or enjoy it while browsing through the lovely shops in the back of the cafe. It’s always important to support local businesses— what better way to do so than by supporting a local cafe and local vendors simultaneously? Mescalito Coffee makes it easy to enjoy some great drinks and snacks while shopping for handmade goods.
