Reviewing Nami: The best vegan desserts in downtown Phoenix.
Nami, meaning ‘wave’ in Japanese, is a delightful vegan dessert shop specializing in mouthwatering vegan treats in Downtown Phoenix. Near the Arts District, Nami is great for breakfast, coffee, fine pastries, and soft serve.
After your meal at any of the neighboring vegan restaurants, stop by Nami for a vegan dessert with combinations for the discerning appetite. When I was there in the afternoon, a mother and her two middle-school-aged children enjoyed a healthy refreshment after school.
Nami Décor Bringing the Outside In
White-winged birds painted on the ground and on the building mural lead you between Nami and Green, a restaurant that specializes in vegan comfort foods. The blue and turquoise color scheme is bright and attractive.
Inside, the simple furniture is complemented by windows with deep sills that serve as bookshelves. I found this decorating concept engaging because it brings the outside in, and I was curious about the reading materials.
The books lining the windowsills were paperbacks and hard bounds that I’d actually read. One of my favorite authors, Robert B. Parker’s Family Honor, would be my choice to while away time over a specialty coffee or brunch. I might even open the World History & Geography hardbound tome because I enjoy pouring over maps and learning about destinations worldwide. Catching Fire, The Hunger Games Book 2, or If I Stay by Gayle Forman also piqued my interest.
Breakfast, pastries, coffee and soft serve at Nami
Breakfast is served in the morning Monday through Saturday. Sunday Brunch is served on Sundays from 9 am until 2 pm.
Six burritos from basic to spicy, three sandwiches or bagels, Biscuits & Gravy, a breakfast salad, a fruit and granola Power Bowl, and a yogurt parfait headline the Breakfast Menu.
Sides include organic tofu scramble, tempeh bacon, peanut butter, chia, chips and spread, and a kale salad.
Bagel toppings include butter, cream cheese, herb cream cheese, organic peanut butter, and organic strawberry jam. When I lived in New York City, my favorite meals were a bagel and cream cheese. So, I am eager to try this vegan version.
Nami makes plant-based custom cakes, cupcakes, pastries, donuts (vegan and gluten-free), cheesecake, carrot cake, and more. You can order online and pick up at their 7th Street location.
Chef Damon Brasch from Nami and Green created Take N’ Bake Vegan Cookie Dough so that you can have fresh-baked cookies any time you wish. Flavors include Classic Chocolate Chip, Gluten Free Soy Free Chocolate Chip, and Cosmic.
What is tSoynami?
If you haven’t heard of tSoynami, it is a 100% plant-based vegan ice cream treat. It’s said to give you superpowers. I can’t verify that because I didn’t notice any discernable difference after eating the delectable indulgence. However, my sweet tooth was totally satisfied.
tSoynami is made from organic unrefined cane sugar, organic soy, and coconut milk tSoft tServe ice cream and your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or swirl.
tSoynami at Nami
You could create your own, but with 18 signature combinations, how can you beat that? From cookies, coffee, almonds, peanut butter, and bananas to mint and chocolate pairings, you won’t get bored trying each one. They even have a Haystack Attack that reminds me of the haystacks my mother-in-law used to make.
There are five fruit choices to add to your concoction. Pick from mango, peach, strawberry, mixed berry, and banana.
I opted for the Swirl because I wanted to try both the chocolate and vanilla. It was delectable and was the perfect, health-conscious, sweet treat!
Nami is Earth-Friendly
tSoynamis are served with a biodegradable spoon in a biodegradable cup. They look like regular plastic but are much better for the environment. The boxes and other flatware are also biodegradable.
Nami Final Review
When I return to Nami for breakfast, I will order the Bagel with Schmagel–that would be with butter, cream cheese, herb cream cheese, organic peanut butter, and organic strawberry jam–the works!
