Reviewing Savvy Cellar Wine Bar: A quaint wine bar, where you can sip and snack in Downtown Mountain View.

Sparkling Rose and Rose Lemonade, Savvy Cellar Wine Bar, Mountain View
Sparkling Rose and Rose Lemonade (Savvy Cellar Wine Bar, Mountain View)

Downtown Mountain View is one of my favorite areas in the San Francisco Bay Area for a dinner night out. It’s full of restaurants, cuisines, outdoor patios, dessert spots, and drinks! Savvy Cellar Wine Bar and Wine Shop is one of Mountain View’s excellent, local wine bars located on Castro Street. They have an extensive wine and beer menu, as well as a variety of appetizers and small bites.

We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and trees surrounding Savvy Cellar Wine Bar. To start, we ordered a sparkling rosé as well as some of their non-alcoholic drinks, ginger beer, and rose lemonade. The sparkling rosé was a gorgeous, pink-orange color, with floral, rosy notes and a slightly sweet and fruity taste. The rose lemonade was sweet and refreshing, and the ginger beer was actually my favorite. I normally do not fancy the ginger flavor in beverages, but this one was just subtly spicy.

For food, they have small plates, artisan boards, classic bites, flatbreads, crostinis, and desserts. We ordered the Italian-style beef mini meatballs served with toasted Italian herb bread and marinara, the Margherita flatbread, the fig, arugula, and prosciutto flatbread, and their cheese and charcuterie board. The portions of every dish were actually a lot bigger than I expected!

The Italian-style beef meatballs came with five toasted Italian herb bread slices. The meatballs were soft and covered in delicious red marinara sauce. Putting the meatball and bread together was almost like building a mini meatball sandwich.

Their flatbreads were much larger than I anticipated; I was already full by the time I had a slice of each flatbread. The flatbreads were made beautifully, and you could tell each topping was placed with care and intention. The edges were crispy and thin, but nothing was seeping through the bread. The Margherita flatbread was a vegetarian, classic tomato sauce flatbread with buffalo mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, balsamic glaze, and basil pesto. The pesto was a perfect topping, as it added a fresh, salty basil flavor that balanced well with the tomato and cheese. The fig, arugula, and prosciutto flatbread was absolutely delicious! It was topped with a sweet honey drizzle, which was a lovely contrast to the umami and savory hints from the prosciutto. This sweet and savory flatbread was so flavorful, and nothing like I’ve ever tasted before.

I was most excited about the cheese and charcuterie artisan board. This board featured cheeses served with almonds, dried fruit, jam, honey, a bundle of grapes, and a combination of cured meat and salamis with mustard and cornichons. It came with a basket of more than enough sliced, soft bread. They also have two other artisan board options: a cheese-only board or a charcuterie-only board. It’s always fun to try and experiment with various combinations of cheeses, jams, and meats! I loved the salami with all of the cheeses, as the flavors blended perfectly with every bite. The jam and honey added a bit of sweetness to each bite, and a grape between bites acted as a nice palate cleanser.

This is the spot to go to with friends or family for a nice, calm, and relaxing night out. I highly recommend getting any of the artisan boards to share and some glasses of rosé to pair with it! Castro Street is beautiful and lively at night. I loved walking around the area after a full meal at Savvy Cellar Wine Bar.
