Reviewing Sleek: Homemade, high-quality chocolate in Houston.

Have you ever heard of a chocolate cafe? Well, once you walk into Sleek prepare to be educated. Sleek has been specializing in fine Belgian chocolate since 2014. There are currently three locations that all use high-quality, homemade chocolate for crepes, waffles, and bonbons. Their crepe design resembles architecture and is very appealing to the eye, matching the awesomeness of the taste. Sleek does not use any additives or preservatives in their chocolate, ensuring the best quality with organic ingredients. Their chocolate, crepes, and waffles are handmade and done just feet away from the register. Chocolate cakes have just recently joined their menu and they also offer gelato, sandwiches, and hot drinks. Sleek is open until midnight on Sundays through Thursdays and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. This cafe is great for families, big groups, and small gatherings. Sleek is often quiet in the day, but it can get busy at night.

The outside of Sleek looks modest, but also interesting. It has a view of the inside through a big window as well as a patio for guests desiring outdoor dining. Guests feel a soothing vibe as soon as they walk in knowing they are about to have a real chocolate treat. The smell of warm chocolate and freshly prepared crepes is very alluring and lingers in your mind, tempting you to visit again. The display near the register is full of brightly colored and dark colored bonbon selections and cakes.

Triple Chocolate Crepe, Sleek, Houston
Triple Chocolate Crepe (Sleek, Houston)

I ordered the triple chocolate crepe filled with kiwi and a small cup of raspberry gelato during my last visit to Sleek. My small side of raspberry gelato was tart, cold, and refreshing. Although tasty, I’d like to focus on my crepe experience. The crepe itself was soft and doughy, but not heavy. It was smothered in three kinds of homemade chocolate sauces including dark, milk, and white. I personally love the dark chocolate one best. The slightly tart and sweet kiwi pieces were a nice contrast to the crepe and chocolate sauces. On other occasions, I also enjoy getting bananas and strawberries as a crepe filling.

This crepe order was truly magnificent in its appearance, flavor, texture, and quality. It was obvious that the chocolate here is not anything like the kind most people in the U.S. are normally accustomed to. The chocolate at Sleek is buttery, not overly sweet, and tastes organic due to its freshness. The triple chocolate crepe is considered their top seller and it’s a reliable order if you are a new guest. I order this almost every single time I have been here in the past four years since discovering it. Their chocolate sauces and fruits can also go on a waffle, which is another popular choice at Sleek.

The service here is efficient, organized, and welcoming. Their system for assisting customers, ringing up orders, preparing requests, and keeping the place clean is impeccable. Some employees immediately pick up dirty plates and cups the moment that a guest gives approval or leaves. Organization is well done at Sleek along with their mission of providing gourmet chocolate treats.
