Reviewing Uptown Sushi: Fresh sushi rolls in Houston.

Uptown Sushi first opened its doors in 2004 and serves a variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, beef orders, and desserts. It is in the Post Oak area of Houston near other upscale restaurants and stores. They are open seven days a week and offer reasonable prices ranging from $12-18. The menu items from Uptown Sushi are high quality and freshly made. My personal favorites are the Tata, Godzilla, and Spiro Rolls, which are immensely popular because of the fresh cold water fish flavors as opposed to rolls with eel or mayo. I recommend these orders to both newcomers to the restaurant and those who are new to sushi.

Uptown Sushi has a mysterious appearance from the outside and yet sophisticated as well. The overall appearance can also be described as modern and stylish. When you walk inside, the vibe is trendy in every way. There is a bar near the host section as well as another sushi bar and set of tables in the main dining area. There are a handful of employees in the center of the dining room at the sushi bar cutting and preparing fish orders. If you’re in the mood for an alcoholic beverage, Uptown Sushi offers a wide selection of wines, cocktails, and beers at fair prices. The crowds can get busy, but the place has a cozy, relaxing vibe to it with a unique subtle excitement at the same time.

Tata Roll, Uptown Sushi, Houston
Tata Roll (Uptown Sushi, Houston)

I ordered the Tata Roll with a bottle of Asahi and the chocolate lava cake for dessert this past Saturday night. My sushi and dessert orders were fantastic, fresh, and unbelievably delicious. The Tata Roll was loaded with amazing flavors. It had salmon and tuna in it, which gave it that fresh flavor without tasting too fishy or metallic. It had a little bit of sweet and tart fruit sauce that nicely mixed with the other ingredients. It has a clean taste and texture with just the right amount of softness and moisture. The Japanese beer that I got for about $7 was exceptionally smooth and crisp without any nonsense. It paired well with my sushi and was not too strong for it either.

Chocolate Lava Cake (Uptown Sushi, Houston)

My dessert choice was impeccable with a rich chocolate taste. It was soft, but not spongy. The texture was like a good brownie or flourless chocolate cake with some chocolate sauce in the middle. Unlike other lava cakes, this one wasn’t too runny, and I could taste a lot of solid chocolate. I would even say it was one of the best lava cakes I have ever eaten. If you are a chocolate lover like me, this chocolate lava cake is a must-try when coming to Uptown Sushi.

The service at Uptown Sushi was great, efficient, and very professional during my visit. The staff that I interacted with were friendly and observant. The system of organization at Uptown Sushi never disappoints and it is always prompt no matter the crowd. The food is always impeccably fresh and consistently tasty. This restaurant is great for any occasion including dates, both small and large group gatherings, and individual cravings. The atmosphere is just as awesome as the menu items. People who do not want sushi or seafood can also order Kobe beef or beef cooked on a rock, which are both delectable and popular choices.
