Reviewing Vegan & Vine: the best Vegan food in Phoenix.

Biscuits and Gravy with Sweet Potato Fries, Vegan & Vine, Phoenix, Arizona
Biscuits and Gravy with Sweet Potato Fries (Vegan & Vine, Phoenix )

If you are looking for comfort food, brunch, shared plates, and some of the best vegan food in Phoenix, Arizona, don’t miss Vegan & Vine in the Moon Valley neighborhood of North Phoenix. This local, family-owned and operated restaurant is conveniently located on a busy corner with plenty of parking in front and behind the restaurant.

Janelle, the owner of Vegan & Vine in North Phoenix, chose its location for a reason–specifically to differentiate the restaurant from the other vegan eateries vying for attention in a saturated local market in Downtown Phoenix. And that decision paid off because their business has been bustling since opening at the beginning of 2022.

When I was there this past summer, they relied on Google Maps for marketing. Since then, they have created an attractive website. They enjoy outstanding reviews and have built an excellent reputation for top-notch vegan food in the Phoenix area. However, Vegan & Vine offers more than just food. They have cocktails or mocktails for happy hour, vegan wine, and coffee.

Even in the hottest weather, indoor and outdoor dining is available at Vegan & Vine. Their shaded patio is pet-friendly, too!

Family owned and operated at Vegan & Vine

I timed my visit perfectly when I arrived at Vegan & Vine on a Sunday morning. I missed the before-church and after-church crowd.

When I entered the restaurant, a pleasant and friendly hostess greeted me and allowed me to sit where I wanted. I chose a window seat with good, indirect lighting, perfect for my food photography. Little did I know that the “hostess” was the owner, Janelle. We had a delightful conversation. She went on to tell me about her years of prior restaurant experience and shared that her daughter is the chef at Vegan & Vine.

A chalkboard at the front entrance to Vegan & Vine displayed New Offerings of Pizza–cheese, portobello mushroom, the Supreme, and my favorite, the Margherita.

Best vanilla latte ever!

Because my favorite coffee beverage is a skinny vanilla latte, I ordered one made with almond milk. This cup of coffee was hot, flavorful, and satisfying–the best I’ve had in a restaurant.

Vegan dessert first, then vegan biscuits and gravy

The sign outside the front door stated: “Life is uncertain; eat dessert first.” I did just that. Before my meal arrived, Janelle placed a delectable, gooey, chewy chocolate chip cookie into my hand–to eat before my meal because life is uncertain. I had to keep reminding myself that this was vegan food, and it didn’t taste like cardboard.

Janelle knew right away that I was a biscuits and gravy gal. She stated this menu item was popular and might run out, so she put my order in immediately. The biscuits and gravy came with colorful, crunchy sweet potato fries and a small ketchup dipping bowl. The texture was a perfect complement to the filling entrée. After I finished my meal, Janelle shared how the gravy is made with coconut milk, which gives it a sweet flavor. The Like Beef meat, seasoned with sausage spices, tastes like meat sausage. Then, the chef sprinkles greens, like fresh parsley, on top.

Fresh produce at Vegan & Vine

As I was departing, Janelle told me that the plants in the two big planters at the front door are harvested for the vegan recipes served in the restaurant. That’s what I call fresh and why the herbs on the plant-based meals are so green.

Visit the Vegan & Vine Market

A wide selection of vegan wines is stocked in the Vegan & Vine Market. They have diligently compiled an extensive collection of the best vegan wines available.

Vegan wines use plant-based or mineral fining agents such as bentonite clay or activated charcoal, or they may be left unfined and unfiltered. Fining is a method used in winemaking to clarify the wine by removing organic compounds like proteins and yeast. Traditional fining agents include casein (a milk protein), albumin (egg whites), gelatin (animal protein), and isinglass (fish bladder protein). These agents are not consumed in the wine but used in the process, making the wine non-vegan.

The Market includes in-house fresh, cold-pressed juices. Countless soy, oat, and almond milk cartons line the floor next to the gift section, including gift cards, candles, earrings, and more.

Vegan foods and beverages, prepared beforehand, are handy Grab-and-Go solutions for meals on the run in the Market.

An interesting Weekly Meal Prep answers, “What’s for dinner?” and offers 12 meals for $150. Imagine having thoughtful, delicious vegan meals prepared for you; all you must do is reheat at dinner.

Vegan & Vine Final Review

Sunday morning was the perfect time for me to visit Vegan & Vine. I avoided the weekday commuter traffic and was able to enjoy all of my vegan delicacies at my own pace. I am eager to go again on a weekend to try more from their enticing menu of goodies.
