Reviewing Kata Robata: The leading sushi and Japanese restaurant in Houston.
Kata Robata is a family-owned Japanese restaurant in Houston that is most known for its sushi and seafood items since opening in 2009. Aside from sushi, this restaurant also serves a variety of meat dishes, ramen bowls, and a selection of alcoholic drinks to choose from. Chef Hori owns this establishment, and he has a rich history of culinary experiences from growing up in Japan. Kata Robata is open seven days a week, and has seafood flown in from Japan at least twice a week all year around. Due to all these factors, Kata Robata was ranked first among the best Houston restaurants in 2019.
From the outside, Kata Robata appears to be modern and trendy for guests, while also retaining a sense of mystery. The sign and name stand out in this strip center, but the inside is barely visible. Once guests walk in, there is an appealing interior setup consisting of a one-story dining room with a full-service bar and a back section on the other side. It looks like a nice setting for gatherings, dates, and people wanting a spot at the bar. The inside is exceptionally clean, and the hosts are the first thing you see on the left side when walking in. It gets remarkably busy on certain days, especially at night. The noise level is loud, but not in a way you cannot hear the people around you. It is a lively restaurant with a classy vibe. Staff members constantly ensure that each guest’s requests and needs are met.
I ordered the Rising Sun Roll on my last visit to Kata Robata. I was looking for a good sushi roll to choose from here and this one happened to be one of their popular choices and signature items. I found it to be very appealing in the picture and description. This sushi order contains fresh, cold-water fish, and no mayo. It is clean and cold with a catchy flavor in both the fish itself and the ingredients used for its prep. The Rising Sun Roll contains yellowtail, peppercorn tuna, avocado, and truffle vinaigrette. It was truly delicious, fresh, and high quality for a reasonable price of $19. It was a fantastic selection, and I would certainly order it again. It was well-balanced, with no foul, sour, or bitter notes. Anyone new to Kata Robata should heavily consider the Rising Sun Roll as an option to satisfy their sushi craving.
The service at Kata Robata was highly organized, welcoming, and helpful. The hosts were constantly helping customers choose orders and find seating spots. My server was attentive, friendly, and genuine. In general, the staff here is great at answering questions about menu items, especially when it comes to describing overall flavors for patrons to make note of. My experience was nothing short of spectacular with the staff checking on everyone without being too overbearing or distant. Every aspect of my first dine-in here was an A+ in terms of meal taste, quality, timing of delivery, and hospitality. Kata Robata is also known for its exceptional consistency, which has earned high praise from regular customers. This restaurant has a mindset of variety and sells high-quality food in the same manner and preparation without making changes that could alter the taste
